Anonymous visitors (no account): We store your star ratings and game session data in your browser session only. This data is never sent to our servers and is cleared when you close your browser.

Registered users (if login is enabled): We collect your name, email address, and hashed password when you create an account. We also store your watchlist, ratings, and preferences.

Technical data: Like most websites, our server logs may record your IP address, browser type, and pages visited for security and performance purposes. We do not use this for tracking or advertising.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the service — managing accounts, personalising recommendations
• To send transactional emails when you request them (e.g. password reset)
• To respond to contact form messages you send us
• To improve the platform

We do not sell, share, or rent your personal information to any third party. We do not display advertising.

3. Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for the site to function — specifically, session cookies for login and security. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features (such as staying logged in) will not work.

4. Third-Party Services

• Wikidata — all movie and TV data is sourced from Wikidata (CC0, public domain). We query their public SPARQL API. No personal data is sent to Wikidata.
• Groq API — used to generate editorial content about films. Only the film title and genre are sent; no user data.
• MailerSend — used to send contact form replies and transactional emails. Your email address is used only to reply to your message.

5. Data Retention

Session-only data (anonymous ratings, game progress) is cleared when your browser session ends. Account data is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion by contacting us — we will process your request within 30 days.

6. Security

Passwords are hashed using ASP.NET Core Identity (industry standard). All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not store payment information of any kind.

7. Children

CinemaWorld is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. Contact us using the details below to exercise these rights.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of CinemaWorld after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
